Emacs 21 disabled the use of ClearType, whereas Emacs 22 allows it and has some code to enlarge the width of the bounding box. Apparently, this display feature needs more changes to get it 100% right. A workaround is to disable ClearType. Try disabling ClearType and seeing whether that helps.

You would be disabling them in Linux as well. (if you actually had to choice to enable them in the first place) You can say that again. I won't even touch Linux until it gets something like ClearType. Well you're in luck. AA fonts have been available in linux for quite some time. -- Matt Remove "-nospam" to reply

Disabling ClearType fixed my problem. My question is, what is ClearType supposed to be for? I have a nice LCD flatscreen monitor, you'd think this wouldn't be an issue. "rustyfender04" wrote: Hi all, Ever since I installed IE7, my email font is fuzzy (When reading or writing contents of a letter).

It's kind of neat because I can play any game simply by disabling one of the cards, I can watch movies on one monitor while working on the other, to lay down even more money for dual LCDs), but with digital, you get MUCH better video quality (ESPECIALLY with Windows XP's ClearType...it's like reading a magazine)

Unless you need it, disabling ClearType might, also. You could actually check whether GL and PShop use the same code with Dependency Walker, particularly if John was nice enough to tell us which dll(?) it is in. I'll bet it has to do with GL's linking to the browser and parts of the Windows shell that Pshop doesn't

no cleartype in landscape ?
If you've tried everything else to get your history back, maybe you could try disabling the feature and then restarting, enabling the history options once it's back up and running. I disabled ClearType but the problem also exists when font size is bigger than a limit (eg 20pt for Arial).

On devices with vertical subpixel orientation (eg the original iPAQ H3600 series), ClearType looked essentially like crap. The proper physical display orientation is needed for ClearType to look good. Disabling ClearType rendering in Landscape mode is IMHO a reasonable decision.

It may be a quirk of Cleartype, since fundamentally it works by juxtaposing the red, green and blue subpixels to give the illusion of anti-aliased black text. It may end up with a lot more red on one side of the character. Try disabling Cleartype and see what happens.

Disabling any kind of font smoothing on Vista
Have you tried enabling/disabling ClearType on both systems. IIRC, XP SP2 changes the default setting so that ClearType (or possibly Standard smoothing) is enabled by default. Either one could potentially adjust the font rendering just enough to prevent the label fitting properly any more if it's a close thing.
